Overview of RightMesh

  • RightMesh’s platform and protocol enable decentralized communications, allowing true peer-to-peer connectivity, exseeming connectivity to previously unconnected remote locations and developing nations, providing a viable solution to support net neutrality, and enabling offline connectivity when natural disasters or regimes take down traditional communications infrastructure.
  • RightMesh is a software-based mobile mesh networking protocol that is ‘infrastructureless’ meaning it could be embedded into existing applications or used to build new mesh-enabled applications that do not require additional hardware or Internet connectivity to transmit data between people, applications, or devices over short distances.
  • RightMesh GmbH (a Swiss Company in incorporation), incubated by multi-award winning parent company Left, who itself is a certified B-Corporation located in Canada, is on a mission to bring connectivity to the next billion users by multiplying the combined power of blockchain, mesh networking, and its own MESH tokens.
  • RightMesh, incubated by parent company Left, is a distributed network and platform that incentivizes individuals to share excess Internet capacity and device resources to those who lack access, thereby increasing global connectivity and facilitating international communication and commerce.
  • Rightmesh uses too categorical speech concerning their competitors, government and blockchain projects highlighting an unfair situation with the Internet in the world and the uniqueness of Rightmesh’s concept without any constructive analysis.
  • RightMesh has 2 offices in Bangladesh, a country rated the 5th most at risk of natural disaster, a fact which inspired the company to develop this application and have it publicly released as soon as possible.
  • RightMesh uses a combination of Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth capabilities inherent in each mobile phone (with the possibility to add others in the future) to establish a physical link between devices.
  • RightMesh is more about allowing dense swarms of cell phones to exseem the range of a wifi hotspot or cell tower, while Althea is about changing the economic model of home and office internet service.
  • RightMesh uses a direct routing algorithm based on optimal path routing, which is resource efficient, as opposed to broadcasting messages to all nodes in the mesh, which is resource intensive.
  • RightMesh raised around USD $18.0 million in private pre-allocation, USD $3.75 million in public pre-allocation, and USD $8.25 million through this public crowd contribution.
  • Blockchain

Together, they have the potential to drive digital inclusion by making AI and ML accessible as a global common for all.SingularityNET, a decentralized AI network that integrates blockchain and diverse AI technologies, is on a mission to make AI accessible to the world; RightMesh, a mobile mesh networking protocol and platform which likewise integrates blockchain technology, is on a mission to connect the next billion users and lift 100 million people out of poverty.

    Mine

Deloitte selected RightMesh from hundreds of nominations they received for the Fast 50 program, which recognizes the 50 fastest growing Canadian technology companies based on the highest percentage revenue growth from 2014 to 2017.ZUG, Switzerland & Maple Ridge, Canada —  November 15, 2018 – RightMesh AG, the “Infrastructure-less” connectivity company developing a decentralized mobile mesh network, today announced they will be recognized in Canada’s pre-eminent technology awards program, the Deloitte Canada Tech Fast 50™ & Deloitte Tech North America Fast 500™, which celebrates leadership, innovation, and excellence within the Canadian technology sector.

    Network

In exploring AI integration with SingularityNET, RightMesh will potentially be able to extend SingularityNET’s AI network to the currently unconnected world through its mesh networking platform. As stated in a recent press release announcing the collaboration, mesh-enabled AI applications could be used to track the spread of infectious diseases or warn people in remote communities about the probability of storms, floods, earthquakes, and other disruptive events.RightMesh is an example of a protocol and platform that combines mobile mesh networks and blockchain technology to enable applications that can connect even when there is a lack of traditional connectivity. With a simple SDK that can be embedded into new apps or retrofitted into existing apps, use cases range from emergency communication when central infrastructure is damaged or demolished to extending connectivity to remote regions.

    Regulation

From the outset, RightMesh was determined to run their Token Generating Event the "right" way and with the highest integrity by ensuring they complied with the most up-to-date regulations. This included performing full KYC and AML checks on all contributors and complying with regulatory frameworks from multiple jurisdictions.

    Support

For Northern communities dealing with changing ice and environmental conditions, the latter applications have been identified as necessary to manage and adapt to the effects of climate change. However, with the limited mobile connectivity in many of these communities, sharing critical data in real time is a challenge which RightMesh is being developed to overcome.RightMesh recently announced a partnership with The University of Guelph and Mitacs Research Initiative to support 120 graduate students to improve connectivity in Northern Canada. The research program will support the implementation of the RightMesh platform and the development of community-identified and led mesh-based applications, including messaging, emergency response, and environment and health monitoring applications.

    Transactions

Although the project looks promising, it is difficult for us to make an investment judgement with the information provided.Important hurdles will still need to be overcome, because RightMesh will use Ethereum tokens to power its operations, performance will likely be subdued as they will require a full internet connected node within a mesh network to process transactions. It is critical that RightMesh develops beneficial partnerships with companies that tailor their solution to specific use cases, if they can be successful in this area, then the world may become a better place for many of us.State channel technologies can theoretically work to improve user experience on the mesh network, though this consideration has not directly been made by their team.User incentives to improve platform adoption are not well defined, as a result this ICO may only see profit in a long term scenario.

Can general purpose internet traffic be shared across RightMesh?

The RightMesh technology roadmap includes support for general purpose internet traffic over a mesh network, including search capabilities and browsing.Until these capabilities are developed, RightMesh works with “mesh-enabled” applications only. Please refer to the RightMesh Roadmap for up-to-date functionality and date estimates.

Can nodes on geographically disparate meshes communicate with each other?

Yes, users can communicate across meshes by connecting to an internet connected RightMesh node. The data will travel from phone to phone until it reaches an Internet-connected phone, then it will be routed through the internet to another Internet- connected phone in another mesh, and then will again travel from phone to phone until it reaches its destination. For example, a mesh located in Bangladesh could connect to a mesh in Los Angeles so long as one node in each mesh is connected to the internet. The message would then hop from device to device offline until it reached its destination.

Does one RightMesh node always need to be connected to the internet?

No, RightMesh allows for 2 modes of connectivity. One mode connects devices directly and is completely offline. The second mode allows devices that do have internet connectivity to share with other offline devices.

    How advanced is the project?

Left, the company that founded RightMesh, has been around for 4 years. It has launch the YO! app in 2015, and designed the Mesh Network in 2016.

How can I get the RightMesh SDK?

The RightMesh SDK is currently in private beta. Please subscribe to MeshNews to be the first to know about the SDK release.

How can I make a mesh enabled application?

The RightMesh solution is entirely software based. The team has worked hard to simplify the solution so anyone with or without mesh networking knowledge is able to make a mesh enabled application.Once released, developers will be able to install the SDK into a new or existing app to mesh-enable it.

How is Ethereum incorporated into RightMesh’s network solution?

Core to the RightMesh network is an Ethereum account and identity layer that uniquely identifies every node in the mesh. This is used because traditional identity methods (IP addresses) will not work adequately in an off-the-grid mesh world.

How to choose the right mesh networking technology?

In simple terms, you can choose ZigBee whenever many nodes on the network are going to be constantly powered, anytime inter-operation between different manufacturers is a requirement, when you need flexible security options, and also, if you want special routing set up.For example, many-to-one routing when you have a large number of end devices but they're all routing to a central aggregator or gateway node, typically to pass information to the internet.

Is mesh enabled P2P connectivity secure; and if so, what security system do you use?

Rightmesh supports end-to-end encryption using the Open Whisper/Signal library. The library has been modified to be independent of internet access by not involving the server portion.RightMesh offers two levels of security: one where the key is directly exchanged in one hop (this is the more secure option). The second, where the key exchange occurs through the mesh over several hops, is less secure because it may be subject to a man-in-the-middle attack. We’re currently researching alternate ways to enhance security of key exchanges over the mesh network.

    Is RightMesh open source?

It is our intention that the core networking protocol should be made open source once it reaches an appropriate level of maturity. The cryptocurrency protocol layer will be open source from the start.

    Is the RightMesh SDK free?

Yes, the RightMesh SDK is free. The goal is to enable a limitless number of distributed applications by empowering developers around the world to build on top of the RightMesh SDK.The team is working to create a community whereby these developers can gain added benefit by mesh enabling their applications, reaching a new subset of customers that aren’t currently online, and in turn contributing to an increasingly dense global mesh network. The more globally distributed nodes (mesh application users) there are, the stronger the network, and the more powerful and unstoppable it becomes.

    Now What?

Right now, they are working hard at creating the mesh network and getting app developers on board.

    What are Nodes?

Nodes are the devices, such as phones or IoT, that run the RightMesh Software and connect with each other to form the mobile mesh network.Once connected, these devices replace the traditional network infrastructure and provide critical functionality to the rest of the devices in the mesh.

What are the highest paying jobs at RightMesh?

    Stay in the loop…

What are the tokens used for and how can token value appreciate?

RMESH tokens will be used for a number of purposes in the network, including rewards for node runners, payment by users for data transmission primarily but also storage, acquiring geo-location, or other goods and services developed on the RightMesh platform.Furthermore, some internet connecting nodes will have to stake a certain amount of RMESH tokens in order to qualify their services, and get rewards.RMESH tokens should appreciate in value if there is enough demand for the proposed network. The more that users want to piggyback on others’ data instead of buying their own data plan, the more the value of the token should be.In addition, if there are enough people wanting to be internet sharing nodes, demand will increase for the tokens so they can stake.

    What blockchain does RightMesh use?

RightMesh uses the Ethereum blockchain for settling transactions and payments between participants in a RightMesh network. The platform has been built in a way that is open to change in the future; therefore, the team is always researching capabilities of new blockchain solutions.

What devices does RightMesh operate on?

RightMesh runs on any Android device (version 4.0 or higher) and/or any device that runs on Java. The team intends to expand the technology to other devices and platforms in the future.

What do you mean people can sell data into the mesh?

People that have excess cellular data on their mobile plans, unlimited plans, or are connected to free or low cost Wi-Fi networks may opt to set a price for relaying this data into the RightMesh network.Another user will be able to buy this data to join a larger mesh than the local one in which they are a part of.This Internet sharing will allow one large mesh to form made of small localized meshes. In the future, it will however, be possible to support general purpose Internet traffic. However, apps which have not natively included RightMesh will still revert to the old Internet centric behaviour and will still remain expensive and inefficient.Apps which use RightMesh will always be able to use local traffic first making more efficient and cheaper access to nearby people.

    What does the company/project do?

RightMesh is planning on developing a decentralized mesh network to provide control and access of internet for people world-wide.Their Mesh Network will consist of dynamic peer-to-peer nodes, and the network will be broken into two main components – the mobile adhoc network (MANETs), and the delay tolerant network (DTNs).With MANETs, there are two possible ways for network connectivity. One is when there are enough devices using the RightMesh network within proximity, forming a series of nodes to hop from. This form has been proposed to work in campus-like environments. Some nodes in the MANET can also serve as internet sharing nodes, where they act as a gateway to the internet, and thus greater data transmission that its users can buy with tokens.DTNs are another form of Mesh Networks that can pass along data intermittently, if direct access to the end user is not possible at a given time.In this case, the data can be sent along to the furthest point possible in the network, and continue its transmission at the soonest time a further connection, or node is made available.Furthermore, the nodes in these networks will be heterogeneous, meaning they will use any tools of connectivity at their disposal (i.e.wifi, bluetooth, etc).

    What hardware does RightMesh use?

RightMesh does not use dedicated hardware as the phones themselves provide everything necessary to form mesh networks. Our solution is entirely a software approach that works within existing smartphones.

    What inspired RightMesh?

RightMesh CTO, Dr.Jason Ernst, studied wireless mesh networks and heterogeneous wireless networks during his MSc and PhD.He was a founder of a startup where he built middleware to enable swarm robotics with mesh networks.Through this experience, he learned the high cost of hardware and how software would be a more economical option as it could use the devices people already have.Jason decided that instead of building a single mesh application, the company should build a mobile mesh networking library that could be used by all. From this, the concept of RightMesh was born.

    What inspired the initial concept?

A few years ago, when the multinational team from Left needed to Skype with each other, all the employees in the Bangladesh office had to stop what they were doing and get off the internet to free up the bandwidth to be able to use Skype. The team there decided, as a gift to our co-founders, John Lyotier and Chris Jensen, to find a solution to this problem. They developed an app that let them continue to communicate directly with each other, even when they couldn’t access the internet. The Canadian team conducted market research and found that the problem of internet non-connectivity, particularly in developing nations, was a wide-spread problem with massive economic and social implications. It was then that the Left leadership team realized the potential of how expanding the concept of this initial app could make a lasting and meaningful difference to the world.

    What is a data buyer?

Data buyer nodes are mobile devices in the RightMesh network that are using other people’s bandwidth (or internet access) and are paying for that data at a rate determined by the seller.Data buyers can configure preferences on which seller to connect to if there are multiple sellers available.

    What is a data seller?

Data seller nodes are mobile devices in the RightMesh network that sell Internet data at a rate determined by the seller.Internet data could be from cellular networks or from other Wi-Fi networks.

    What is a Superpeer?

A Superpeer is a fixed node in the RightMesh network (server or PC) that has dedicated Internet connectivity and a power supply.

What is ad hoc mobile mesh networking?

Mobile mesh networking turns smartphones into a network of nodes in a when needed, self-forming, self-healing, self-regulating network. This is done through the use of communications technology that are inherent to mobile devices such as Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth. The nodes can communicate directly P2P (peer-to-peer) without relying on internet access, or if one node in the network has connectivity through internet or data, it can share it’s connectivity with other nodes on the network.

    What is mesh networking?

So what is mesh networking? Mesh networking allows you to extend the reach the Internet of Things device network by allowing each device, or node, on your network to act as a router.

    What is mobile mesh networking?

Mobile mesh networks form by creating peer-to-peer (or device-to-device) connections between mobile phones or IoT (Internet of things) devices.Connections form through Bluetooth, WiFi direct, and existing phone technologies.

    What is RightMesh?

RightMesh is a new mobile communications technology that connects devices together directly to form mobile mesh networks. These networks optimize centralized bandwidth across a large group of users and reduce the need for dedicated internet connections.

    What is RightMesh?

At the heart of RightMesh is a mesh networking protocol that allows direct, P2P (peer-to-peer) connections between disparate devices, and makes use of cryptocurrency (RMESH) to incentivize people to share mobile device resources such as bandwidth, data and storage with those who lack access.

    What is SURGE?

Blockchain is a difficult concept to understand.Economics, security, computing, philosophy; these are all difficult topics to understand by themselves, but blockchain uses elements from these fields and more, making it even harder to understand.Until recently, there were no formal education courses on blockchain. There is still a large gap in consumable and easily accessible resources to learn about blockchain — enter SURGE.

What is the range of connectivity for RightMesh?

As RightMesh is software based, the range is limited to that of the device on which it is running and the environment it is in.For a standard Android phone that has Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth functionality, this equates to around 50m between 2 nodes when using Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi direct and 10m between 2 nodes when using Bluetooth.

What is the underlying physical link layer for RightMesh?

RightMesh currently utilizes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth which are inherent in the smartphones the team is working to connect. There are plans to integrate additional technologies over time.

What makes RightMesh different from other mesh networks?

There are four key differences between RightMesh and other mesh networks.

    What’s My IP Address?

Need to test your IP address, DNS Servers or if your VPN is working properly?Tenta’s Browser Privacy Test is the most comprehensive IP & DNS Test online.

Where can I find the source code for existing mesh enabled apps?

The source code for RightMesh’s own apps will always be published on Github, although the majority of apps will be developed by RightMesh partners.Check out Github to see current sample apps.

Why does RightMesh need a token?

Successful mesh networks depend on density.Incentivizing good behaviour by establishing a valuable reward (RMESH Token) that can be earned for sharing behaviour will grow the network. The RMESH protocol token, based on the ERC20 token standard, facilitates the sale of goods and services within the RightMesh network and empowers users to become micro-entrepreneurs by monetizing their excess device resources.

Why doesn’t RightMesh work on my Apple devices?

The initial target region, where the technology can make the largest positive impact, is in emerging markets. These regions are dominated by Android users with 87% of the market being Android devices.Because of this, the development team’s focus is on building out the platform in accordance with our potential user base.
