What’s the story?

In SOLARIS, psychologist Chris Kelvin (George Clooney) is sent aboard a space station to investigate a series of unexplained events, which appear to be caused by the nearby planet Solaris.When he begins to experience the phenomena himself, being reunited with a version of his deceased wife, Rheya (Natascha McElhone), he struggles to separate his emotions from reality as he gets pulled further into the mystery that threatens to envelop all onboard.

History of Solaris

In 1968 the director Andrei Tarkovsky had several motives for cinematically adapting Stanisław Lem’s science fiction novel Solaris (1961).

In 2000, around the time Steven Soderbergh was working on Traffic, Soderbergh pitched his ideas of a Solaris film adaptation to Cameron and Lightstorm producers Rae Sanchini and Jon Landau.

In 2005 the company Sun announced that Solaris’ source code was going to be published with a CDDL (Common Development and Distribution License), making it possible to access the code in real time thanks to the open software project called OpenSolaris.

In 2009, Oracle Corporation came to an arrangement to buy Sun Microsystems, owning Solaris and Sun’s Java with it.

In 2010, Solaris made Time magazine’s “Top 10 Hollywood Remakes” list, saying it was “expertly and exquisitely executed” and “manages to extract that all too rare achievement from a sci-fi film: emotion.[24]
