In 2012 Honda announced plans to enter the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with a racer built on the ninth generation Euro Civic five-door hatchback.

In 2017, 10 years after its original release, the 2007 model was recalled due to a defect in the vehicle’s airbags, where it could potentially explode in front of the driver and its occupants when activated in both minor and major accidents, posing a threat to passengers.[citation needed]

In 2020, the Civic received a revision with new engines and other minor upgrades.[8]
