Overview of Civitas

  • Civitas Maxima facilitates the documentation of international crimes, and pursues the redress of such crimes on behalf of victims who do not have access to justice, by: (i) collaborating with and building the capacity of local grass-roots partners to document crimes in the state where those crimes were committed; (ii) coordinating a network of investigators and lawyers to help victims gain access to justice and hold perpetrators accountable before foreign domestic or international courts and tribunals, however, whenever and wherever possible;(iii) generating awareness and informed debate around victims’ cases, with a view to empowering local communities to pursue their own quests for justice.
  • Civitas Solutions, Inc., which markets its services nationally as The MENTOR Network, is the leading national provider of home- and community-based health and human services to must-serve individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical or behavioral disabilities and other special needs.
  • CIVITAS is our Social Studies Honor Society.  CIVITAS means a body of citizens who share responsibility, a common purpose, and a sense of community.  All applicants should possess civic engagement in the school or community and a focus on the Social Studies.
  • Civitas does most of our information gathering, dissemination, planning, assessment and implementation with a participatory approach, and engages both our clients and our respondents throughout the process to ensure optimal outcomes.

  • Civitas first sold the Mount Airy (North Carolina) News – along with more than 20 other papers in North Carolina and South Carolina– to Champion Media, started by the former chief operating officer of Civitas.
  • Civitas sold almost all of its papers in 2016 and 2017 to AIM Media (36), Champion Media (22), Boone Newspapers (4), and Hearst (3), all of which are privately owned and operated newspaper chains.

    Civitas Council is the second arm of the judicial system for student self-governance, upholding the principles of social conduct known as Community Values.Civitas helps students maintain a healthy attitude towards attending college, living in a community, and the social aspect of college life.Civitas is advised by a member of the Student Development staff who is charged with providing guidance and support to ensure that the process is fair and follows the due process.Comprised of students elected by their peers, the council also handles Community Values violations.Each student of Converse, by virtue of enrolling, is bound by, commits to abide by and strives to actively support the Student Code of Conduct for Converse College, as the strength of our sense community is based on student mutual respect for and commitment to the ideals of the system.The safety, health and well being of each student is the priority of the Council, and it seeks to protect the rights and privileges of all students.To this end, Civitas oversees the Convocation Series of events designed to help students develop greater appreciation of life experiences beyond their area of study.
