The CEO of Genesis apparently wants to know – does this mean the manufacturer is considering a production model?

My jaw dropped when the veil dropped revealing the fantastic looking Genesis X concept coupe, but then it started rising back into its normal position as I read through the press release. The blurb went on about how awesome the design is and why the car looks the way it does, but it also announced that the vehicle was purely a study whose aim was to preview the brand’s future design direction and nothing more.

When can you buy a Genesis X Concept?

As the name suggests, this is just a concept for the moment, so don’t get all excited to get your own car with a Crystal sphere in the center console any time soon.Right now, however, you can buy the company’s G-series sedans or the GV-series SUVs.It’s unclear which worldly lake inspired the colors for those models, however, which hardly makes it seem worth it.

Genesis X concept: What is it?

It’s the fifth concept that the Korean premium brand has revealed since it was founded by Hyundai in 2015, following the New York, GV80, Essentia and Mint.

    What Won’t Make Production?

Like any concept vehicle, certain details won't make it to production. Those digital side mirrors will have to go because they aren't currently legal in the United States, and the clamshell hood might be a waste because there's no engine under it anyway. As for the rest of the exterior, it looks surprisingly production-ready.

What Are the Genesis X Concept Design Specs and Features?

In its current concept form – the Genesis X Concept features a bold two-door coupe style that is built on a Two Lines design concept that is apparent inside and out.The exterior of the Genesis X Concept features a low silhouette, a 3D G-Matrix Crest Grille, dual-lined Quad Lamp LED headlights, double-layered bumpers, a powerful clamshell hood, an arching Parabolic Line on the side and much more.To add to the signature style of the Genesis X Concept, the internal pattern of the grille is the same color as the body of the vehicle. The current Genesis X Concept is envisioned with a high-powered, all-electric powertrain.

Genesis X concept detailed: Does the Korean brand's GT concept car point to a future Audi e-tron GT rival?

Hyundai’s luxury division, Genesis, has revealed its X Concept, a fully electric Gran Turismo two-door coupe, with a focus on sustainability.

    What Will It Be Called?

Genesis says it chose the letter X to represent a "hidden hero," whatever that means. While the name isn't terrible, it doesn't roll off the tongue well, and nor does it match the current Genesis naming scheme with G for sedans and GV for crossovers and SUVs.If Genesis does build a flagship Grand Touring car, we'd assume that one of the company's trademarked names will be used.Possible names currently registered include GT70, GC70, GT90, and GC90.

    What’s Next?

Genesis is clear about one thing – the X concept might not preview an actual production model from the company, instead informing the design of future vehicles. The company has two EVs on the way soon, one of which will be based on an existing model (likely the GV70) and the other a bespoke EV built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP architecture. That vehicle will likely draw extensive design inspiration from the Genesis X, with more Two Lines features than current products. It might also get the X concept’s interior, doing away with the standalone infotainment display in favor of a more integrated approach.

What Will Carry Over From The Concept?

Looking at past HMG concept vehicles, it's clear that the company likes to preview design languages that will appear on future models. The Hyundai Le Fil Rouge Concept inspired the grille for the 2022 Tucson and Santa Cruz, the Hyundai 45 Concept heavily influenced the Ioniq 5, the Kia Imagine Concept loosely became the EV6, and the Genesis Mint Concept will morph into the upcoming 2022 Genesis GV60.While none of these examples reached production without significant changes, they all turned out pretty darn close to their concepts.

Will the Genesis X Concept Be Available at Dealerships?

Like any concept vehicle, the question will always be – will this concept be available at dealerships in the future? To put it simply – we do not know. The Genesis X Concept provides fans of the luxury brand with an athletic luxury sports coupe that is built to compete with the Lexus LC, Audi R8, Mercedes-Benz SL, BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-AMG GT, Audi TT and more.No matter what happens with the Genesis X Concept in production – elements of the brand-new design promise to be future highlights of the Genesis-brand design language.
