One of the most crucial parts to skip-level meetings’ success is how you kick them off.As you might imagine, if your manager’s direct report all of sudden receives a calendar invite from you for a meeting without any context, they might panic.

We are funding through a mix of founders cash, pitch competitions, institutional investment, and grants.The majority of our funding goes towards product development.
How did you name it?
I was with a friend who is the wellness program director at a healthcare company and explained to her that I needed a name that would be straight to the point, while still demonstrating that I want to offer a comprehensive wellness program targeting multiple dimensions of well-being: physical, social, occupational, and emotional.
What do you wish people knew about One Stop Wellness?
I wish people knew how much work has gone into understanding our customer and industry.
Who’s your favorite cow?
Daisy.I call her “Poopsy.” She turned eight in March.

Turns out none of this may have been the case were it not for a lost job opportunity, a war in Vietnam, and Roth’s then-bosses going overseas for a bit.
How to prepare for a skip-level meeting?
In a survey we conducted last year with 1,182 managers and 838 employees about one-on-one meetings, we found 36% of employees believe their manager is only “somewhat prepared” — and 40% of employees think their manager is “not prepared” or “not prepared at all.
What is a skip-level meeting?
A skip-level meeting is a meeting where you, as a manager, meet one-on-one with the direct report of a manager who you manage.Hence, the “skipped level.” For example, if you have 5 managers who directly report to you, and there are 45 employees who then report to them, the skip-level meetings would be the ones you’d hold with any of those 45 employees.It’s a variant of the one-on-one meeting you might already be doing with your direct reports.
Why do you think she’s so sweet?
I think because 4-Hers showed her as a calf and as a yearling at the fairs.The kids give her so much attention.One time, I let some of the youngest 4-Hers wash her at the Fair.They were still learning how to do it, so it took them nearly an hour and she stood there patiently the whole time.
What else can you tell us about her?
She’s a very pretty cow to look at.She was Brown Swiss “Grand Champion” as a three-year old at the Champlain Valley Fair.She was the best looking cow in the room! She’s a pretty good milker and she’s had three daughters for us: Tsunami, Rolo, and Azalea, who was just born yesterday.
Why did you start your company?
This company was an evolution from my first business, a virtual fitness coaching company.
What mentors, partnerships, or deals have been pivotal to your initial traction?
We were able to partner with a leading employee benefits firm, which is a distribution channel that helped us to get our initial customers.Also we brought on strategic advisors who are well respected industry thought leaders to increase our credibility.
What is a One on One Meeting?
A buddy who I play golf with on occasion (he’s a two handicap and drops bombs off the tee) recently commented on our our LinkedIn post and exclaimed the statement: “I FINALLY looked up what is a “one on one meeting.
How do you pick her out when she comes through the parlor?
Her udder.Her face.And she has an ear tag that says 909 and her name! So you can use that.But they all look different.They’re all different shades of brown… they’re built different… their udders all look different.
What sector trends are you most excited about?
The rise of the virtual workplace is exciting because it makes a greater case for companies to cater to the needs of younger generations.I also mentioned the need for a flexible work environment in my book, “The Ultimate Guide to Engaging Millennials,” in 2018.
How is your team operating right now in these virtual times?
We are operating efficiently because from the beginning my team has been spread out and collaborated virtually.We’ve been using many tools to communicate and track productivity.
Why is she your favorite?
I’ve just loved her since she was a baby.I liked her mom a lot.I liked her grandmother.And she’s just a sweet cow.
It sounds like she would be a good cow for the Children’s Farmyard?
No.Unfortunately, she does not like being hand milked.She’ll stand hand milking for like a minute, but she wouldn’t stand for as long as they need her to. She doesn’t mind machine milking at all, though.
