Polymaths are at their best, according to Burke, “viewing the big picture and pointing out connections that specialists had missed.” Many polymaths over the years have been interested in the question of the unification of knowledge.

Polymaths include the great scholars and thinkers of the Islamic Golden Age, Renaissance and Enlightenment, who excelled at several fields in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts.

Polymaths could ‘master’ broad subjects and make significant contributions to those fields because the limited information provided curious minds with ample opportunities to make new discoveries.

Polymaths which include Djerassi would seem to be a dying breed in the twenty-first century; at least our culture does not celebrate or note them in quite the same way as perhaps we once did.

Polymaths are fascinating, certainly, and they show that it’s possible to be creative – a fewtimes even at the highest levels, although this is exceedingly rare – in multiple domains.

A polymath is “a fewone who knows a lot about many alternative subjects” (Cambridge), or according to my computer’s dictionary it’s “a fewone of wide-ranging knowledge or learning”.

Polymaths first develop a clear question in their mind of what they’re trying to answer and second find the info they’re looking for to answer this question or develop the skill.

Polymath is a noun that refers to a fewone who is well-informed and learned about a wide variety of topics, as opposed to possessing expertise in one specific field of inquiry.
