Overview of Presearch

Presearch’s vision is a community-owned, choice-rich online playing field in the place where the Google search box normally squats; a sort of pluralist, collaborative commons that welcomes multiple search providers and rewards and surfaces community-curated search results to further diversity — encouraging Internet users to discover a democratized multiplicity of search results, not just the things big tech wants them to see.

Presearch, a 2017-founded, pro-privacy blockchain-based startup that’s using cryptocurrency tokens as an incentive to decentralize search — and thereby (it hopes) loosen Google’s grip on what Internet users find and experience — was born out of the frustration, almost a decade before, of trying to build a local listing business only to have its efforts downranked by Google.

Presearch’s startup advisor roster includes names that will be familiar to the wider blockchain community: Ethereum co-founder and founder of Decentral, Anthony Di Iorio; Rich Skrenta, founder and CEO of startup search engine Blekko (acquired by IBM Watson back in 2015); and industry lawyer, Addison Cameron-Huff.

Presearch will leverage its PST token (ERC20 Ethereum based token) to reward and incentivize the community to use, promote and contribute to the platform, enabling members to benefit by using the system and to be rewarded for engaging with Sponsors, rather than being a product that is monetized by the search engine.

Presearch’s advisory board also includes internet pioneer Rich Skrenta, who sold his search engine Blekko to IBM Watson; open-source search innovator Trey Grainger, SVP of Engineering at Lucidworks; and leading technology lawyer Addison Cameron-Huff, whose experience includes working with Ethereum’s founding team.

Presearch tokens are known as PRE, and when they are staked they are still owned and controlled by the advertiser, but they cannot be sold or traded until they are “unstaked.” This unstaking can be done at any time the advertiser desires, but it will also undo the attached ad.

Presearch has an innovative go-to-market strategy to target the most frequent searchers – web workers – and gain early adoption, on our way to releasing future versions of the open source platform that will utilize a blockchain-based index, curated by the community.

Presearch’s idea it to allow the community to look under the hood and actively participate in this system with the power of cryptocurrency to align participant incentives within the ecosystem to create a ground-up, community driven alternative to Google’s monopoly.

Presearch’s transparent ranking factors combine human curation with scalable machine learning, a contrast to manipulated algorithm-driven methods standard among today’s industry giants.
