The Biewer Terrier is a rare purebred dog created through the occurrence of a recessive piebald gene in two Yorkshire Terriers, It originated in Germany on January 20, 1984, from breeding by Gertrud and Werner Biewer’s Yorkshire Terriers.

History of Biewer Terriers

In 1984, a piebald Yorkshire Terrier puppy was bred from two Yorkshire Terriers carrying a recessive gene for piebald coloration.

In 2007 a study the BTCA did with geneticists proved that the Biewer is actually now a separate breed from the Yorkshire Terrier, and not just a Yorkie with a new look.
