Bloat
Great Danes easily become couch potatoes. However, Great Danes do very well in agility training when given the opportunity. There is nothing more beautiful than a finely tuned Great Dane in full gallop.Do not exercise a Great Dane for at least one hour after he has eaten to prevent bloat.Long daily walks are best for him.
Bone and Joint Problems
Active tasks are allowed, but not too much.Great Danes, like all large dogs, are prone to bone and joint problems if they’re exercised too frequently.Maintain a strict schedule of one long walk per day for adult-sized Great Danes.Other approved activities are fetching and swimming.
Breed
If you decide to get a puppy that is this mix, it is essential that you make sure that the breeder is a responsible one.Mum and pups should not be separated until they have been fully weaned and are at least eight weeks old, and they should have had their initial health checks too. While there will be breeders of Great Dane Lab Mixes, don’t forget that this is not a recognized breed so there will not be any registered accredited breeders. While there will be breeders of Great Dane Lab Mixes, don’t forget that this is not a recognized breed so there will not be any registered accredited breeders. Cancer
Cancer:
Cancers are now part of the world of canines across many breeds and they are more readily diagnosed and can be treated.Great Danes do have a slightly higher prevalence to cancers compared to some dogs and Osteosarcoma, especially in a limb, can be a huge hurdle to overcome. There are the obvious costs to consider but helping a 70kg Dane to toilet when his legs don’t work…well, we will leave you with that image. You should consider whether you could care for a Dane with an amputation or nurse one through surgery and/or chemotherapy.
Coat
Great Danes are a breed of giant German dogs known for their imposing size and weight paired with a sweet and gentle demeanor.Originally bred for the hunting of bears, boars, and deer, the Great Dane today has adapted to domestic life and is comfortable in a variety of environments from large houses to small apartments. With a loving and friendly temperament, the Great Dane is often referred to as the “world’s largest lapdog.” Great Danes have a variety of coat colors from the iconic harlequin and black patterns, to fawn and brindle, and blue coats.
Energy
Your breeder will know the interworking’s and personality of their chosen breed like the back of their hand. They may ask you what kind of exposure you’ve had with other Great Danes, or large breeds in general – and how much you know about their temperament, energy level, etc. They’ll want to inform you if you’re not a good fit for a Great Dane – and you may not be, they’re not for everyone.

Grooming
Labradors are notorious shedders, and even the Great Dane sheds a fair bit.You are not going to have a dog that needs to go to the local grooming salon for a regular trim and pamper session with a Great Dane Lab Mix, but you are likely going to have to invest in a good vacuum cleaner, lint roller and de-shedding tool. You are not going to have a dog that needs to go to the local grooming salon for a regular trim and pamper session with a Great Dane Lab Mix, but you are likely going to have to invest in a good vacuum cleaner, lint roller and de-shedding tool. Health
A mixed breed is no guarantee of better health, no matter what you may hear about mutts.A mixed breed is no guarantee of better health, no matter what you may hear about mutts. When it is a simple cross between two pedigree dogs, there is still a chance of them inheriting conditions from either mum or dad. If health checks have been done on the parents, then this will lessen the risk, but it is still important to be aware of what potential health conditions a Great Dane Lab Mix could be prone to.If health checks have been done on the parents, then this will lessen the risk, but it is still important to be aware of what potential health conditions a Great Dane Lab Mix could be prone to.When it is a simple cross between two pedigree dogs, there is still a chance of them inheriting conditions from either mum or dad.
Heart Disease
Heart Disease – Great Danes are also commonly associated with developing Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This condition results in the heart muscles weakening and not being able to pump as effectively. If it is diagnosed early enough, it can sometimes be managed with medication, although it can eventually lead to heart failure and death.Heart Disease – Great Danes are also commonly associated with developing Dilated Cardiomyopathy. If it is diagnosed early enough, it can sometimes be managed with medication, although it can eventually lead to heart failure and death. This condition results in the heart muscles weakening and not being able to pump as effectively.
Infections
Great Danes are susceptible to bacterial and viral infections — the same ones that all dogs can get — such as parvo, rabies, and distemper. Many of these infections are preventable through vaccination, which we will recommend based on the diseases we see in our area, her age, and other factors.
Life expectancy
As a giant breed, Great Danes unfortunately has a short average life expectancy of just six years.
Obesity
Instead, give her a hug, brush her fur or teeth, play a game with her, or perhaps take her for a walk.It is a serious disease that may cause or worsen joint problems, metabolic and digestive disorders, back pain, and heart disease.Obesity can be a significant health problem in Great Danes. She’ll feel better, and so will you!Though it’s tempting to give your pal food when she looks at you with those soulful eyes, you can “love her to death” with leftover people food and doggie treats.
Personality
Just like physical characteristics, you need to look at the parents when figuring out the type of personality your Lab Great Dane mix puppy will have.
Social
Due to their above-average large size, they need lots of space and an early socialisation, as it may be hard to handle a misbehaved adult dog the size of a Great Dane.Good family dogs, very kind and at ease with children, these elegant and athletic dogs make good pets. The giant Great Dane, also known as Deutsche Dogge, or German Dog, is one of the tallest dog breeds there is.They are also one of the gentlest, best-natured, and most graceful dog breeds, despite their huge size.
Spay or Neuter
Due to the Great Dane’s deep chest and body structure, they are very prone to this occurring.Great Danes are prone to various health problems. It is a good idea to have Great Danes receive a prophylactic gastropexy at the time of spay or neuter. They are the number one breed at risk for gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV).With this disease, the stomach becomes dilated with gas and twists around itself which can cut off its blood supply and the blood supply of other organs in the abdomen. With this procedure, the stomach is attached to the body wall, making it less prone to twisting in the future.
Temperament
Training
Great Danes are generally well disposed toward other dogs, other noncanine pets, and familiar humans. However, if not properly socialized, a Great Dane may become fearful or aggressive towards new stimuli, such as strangers and new environments.[33]
They generally do not exhibit extreme aggressiveness or a high prey drive.[32] The Great Dane is a very gentle and loving animal and with the proper care and training is great around children, especially when being raised with them.

A great place to start is the Great Dane Club of America, www.gdca.
Food & Diet Requirements ??
Great Danes have specific dietary requirements that must be followed.Failure to do so could result in orthopedic issues due to the breed’s massive size. You’ll need to tailor your Great Dane’s diet to their size at each stage of their life.Still, you should expect a Great Dane to eat far more than most other breeds. In fact, adult males will eat as much as 10 cups of quality dry dog food each day.
What Do Grandads and Great Danes Have in Common?
People are living longer than ever before. In fact, it’s estimated that by 2050 over 24% of the world’s population will be age 65 or older. This is an unprecedented situation in human history and we are frighteningly unprepared for the economic, health care and social impact of this massive demographic shift.Osteoarthritis, sarcopenia, osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal diseases are significant health issues in old age.For example, the annual direct medical costs of treating osteoporotic fractures total $13.8 billion.Increased mortality, pain, disability, depression and loss of independence are well-documented consequences following musculoskeletal injury in elderly people.Although people are living longer (increased lifespan), this has not been accompanied by an increase in the number of years of life without the burden of age-related disease (healthspan).

Exercise ??
With most breeds, the amount of exercise they need is directly proportional to the dog’s size. That’s not the case with Great Danes.Though these dogs are huge, as heavy as 200 pounds, they don’t require as much exercise as other large breeds. As such, they don’t need as much living space. You can easily get away with keeping a Great Dane in a smaller home with a moderate-sized yard.It doesn’t have to be anything huge.
