Pomchi dogs, also called the Chi-Pom, the Pomahuahua and the Chiranian, are definitely designer dogs, and, as a fairly recent cross, they are not accepted as a purebred dog by the American Kennel Club (AKC.) History of Pomchis

In 1933 the Miniature Schnauzer was recognized as a separate breed from the Standard Schnauzer by the AKC.

In 1998 a standard was set forth by the Pomchi Club of America.

In 1998, Pomchi Standard was adopted by the American Pomchi Club.

In 2020, the sequencing of ancient dog genomes indicates that in two Mexican breeds the Chihuahua retains 4% and the Xoloitzcuintli 3% pre-colonial ancestry.
